Effect of environment stressor on work ability in primary and middle school teachers

  • ObjectiveTo explore the impact of environment stressor on work ability in primary and middle school teachers.MethodsTotally 851 teachers were sampled with stratified cluster random method from 11 primary and middle schools in Urumqi.The participans were asked to fill out Instrument zur stre β bezogenen Tätigkeitsanalyse 6.0(ISTA 6.0), Comprehensive Work Ability Index(CWAI)Questionnaire,Life Event Scale,Social Support Scale,and Individual Traits Questionnaire.ResultsSignificant differences were found in work ability among different age groups and the work ability decreased with the increment of age with the CWAI scores of 47.62±5.46,45.45±5.96,and 42.61±6.51 for the teachers at the age of 20-29,30-39,and≥40 years,respectively(P<0.01).The longer the length of the service was,the lower the ability to work was(P<0.01).Junior teachers'work ability score(47.67±5.50)was higher than that of intermediate (44.96±5.98)and senior teachers(44.27±6.73,P<0.01).Unmarried teachers'ability score was higher than that of married teachers(47.25±6.08 vs 45.17±6.19,P<0.01).The higher the work ability was,the less the earnings was (P<0.01).The work ability of the females was higher than that of the males with the CWAI scores of 45.20±6.19 vs 48.34±5.34(P<0.01).The work ability of the Han participants was higher than that of the minority(47.49±6.22 vs 45.81±5.57,P<0.01).The teachers with longer work experience had higher work ability(P<0.01).The main influencing factors of work ability in the teachers were age,life event,environmental stressor,support availability,ethnic,and gender(P<0.01).ConclusionThe decreased work ability in the primary and middle school teacher is related to lower education,gender,life stress,work stressor,individual characteristics,environment stress,and support availability.
