Toxicologic evaluation of aquatic environment in area with contamination caused by waste electrical and electronic equipment dismantlement

  • Objective To study zymological change in wild crucian liver and the genotoxicity, estrogenic hormone activity in aquatic environment in the area with contamination caused by waste electrical and electronic equipment dismantlement. Methods Superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity, glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) activity, cytochrome P4501 A1 activity, and malondialdehyde(MDA) content in wild crucian liver in contaminated zone and control zone were detected. At the same time, the reverse mutation test of Salmonella typhi munine(Ames test) and recombinant gene yeast test were used to detect water samples from the two zones. Results Cytochrome P4501A1 activity in wild crucian liver in contaminated zone was significantly higher than that in control zone with the means of 9.76±3.03 and 2.75±1.18 nmol/g·min.SOD activity in wild crucian liver in contaminated zone(23.34±4.12 U/mg pro) was significantly lower than that in control zone(32.23±6.87 U/mg pro). The differences in GSH-Px activity and MDA content between two zones were not statistically significant. The organic extract from contaminated zone water sample was positive in Ames test. The organic extracts of water sample from the two zones didn't display estrogenic hormone activity. Conclusion There were enzymatic activity changes in wild crucian liver in the area with contamination caused by waste electrical and electronic equipment dismantlement. The water organic extract from contaminated area presents a mutagenicity but no estrogenic hormone activity.
