Effect of intervention on knowledge, attitude and practice about hypertension among rural residents

  • Objective To estimate the effect of health education on knowledge,attitude and practice(KAP)about hypertension among rural residents.Methods Questionnaire survey and laboratory test were used in a baseline study and an evaluation survey three months after the intervention.The intervention included distributing free low-sodium salt and salt spoon monthly,training to make low-salt diet in the family,and distribution of leaflets about "salt and hypertension" .Results After the intervention,there were significant increases in health awareness,attitude toward low-salt diet,and hypertension-related knowledge(P<0.05).Compared with the baseline,the subjects showed significantly increased rates of lowsalt use and lowfat diet(P<0.05).Conclusion The low-salt health education can significantly improve the relevant knowledge of hypertension in rural population and promote lowsalt and lowfat dietary pattern among rural residents.
