Reproductive health status and related factors among female college students with different specialty

Objective To explore reproductive health status and related factors among female college students with different specialty and to provide evidence for making intervention measures.Methods With stratified random cluster sampling,1 738 female college students from 4 colleges at Hangzhou university-town were selected for a questionnaire survey.Data on the status of reproductive health as well as on the related factors were collected.Results The average age of the female college students was 20.87±1.38 years.Among the students,the average age at menarche was 14.11±1.27 years and the average length of menstrual cycle was 29.75±4.30 days.There were 31.24% of the respondents reporting irregular menstrual cycles,87.17% reporting reproductive health problems and 26.58% of them sought medical advice because of reproductive health problems in the previous one year.The situation of non-medical students was worse than that of medical students.The main reproductive health problems included menstrual disorder(54.95%),dysmenorrhea(49.19%),lumbago(25.26%),breast pain(15.82%),and abnormal leucorrhea(15.13%).Only 68.53% of respondents cleaned vulva every day,and the rates of sexual intercourse and masturbation were 7.25% and 5.24%.Cleaning vulva correctly(odds ratioOR=0.527)and sexual intercourse(OR=2.15)influenced the status of reproductive health among the students.ConclusionThe status of reproductive health among female college students is not good,which is associated with many factors.
