Equality of public family-planning service for female floating population

  • Objective To investigate current situation about the equality of public family-planning service for floating women in Huli district of Xiamen city.Methods A household questionnaire survey was conducted among 590 childbearing women aged 18-49 years(401 migrant women and 189 women with registered local residence)in Xiamen during June to July 2014.Results Among the participants,38.2% of the floating women and 79.4% of the registered women received cervical and uterus cancer screening;66.7% of the local women and 41.6% of the floating women reported condom use for contraception.The proportion of receiving prenatal and postnatal care service free of charge was lower among the floating women than among the local women.For the floating women and the local women having gave birth to their babies in Xiamen city,87.5% and 82.9% had never received prenatal examination free of charge;59.8% and 84.6% received prenatal examination 5 times or more;and 75.2% and 83.4% had their children being received all vaccinations covered by planned immunization free of charge.Conclusion The floating women in Xiamen city received less basic public services than the registered local women in general and the equality of public family-planning services needs to be improved.
