Is the research method of epidemiology fully prepared for the era of precision medicine?

  • Precision medicine has a strong relationship with epidemiology."Precision prevention",one part of "precision medicine",falls under the category of epidemiology. Moreover, the population-based method of epidemiology relying on inductive reasoning is the common technology of "precision medicine".In the era of "precision medicine",the research method of epidemiology, which is applicable to the prevention and control of diseases in large populations, cannot be fully adapted to the study of "precision medicine" focusing on individuals. This article, taking the "precision prediction" as an example, introduces the shortcomings of epidemiological methods existing in the "precision medicine" and provides possible solutions;therefore the "relative precision" medical research can be conducted based on the existing methodology.
