Satisfaction to free screening for breast and cervical cancer and its influential factors among rural woman in Hubei province

  • Objective To examine the satisfaction to breast and cervical cancer screening free of charge and its influencing factors among rural women in Hubei province and to provide evidences for improving the quality of the screening project. Methods A survey was conducted among 6 141 participants selected with stratified random cluster sampling from one million rural women having taken free screening for breast and cervical cancer in 29 municipalities, districts or counties between November 2014 and November 2015 with a self-designed questionnaire based on American customer satisfaction index.Univariate and multivariate linear regression were used to analyze influential factors of satisfaction to the screening project. Results Among the participants, the average total satisfaction score was 45.36±5.25,with the domain scores of 9.01±1.16 for medical environment,9.01±1.16 for the screening process,8.93±1.32 for doctors' professional ability,9.23±1.10 for attitude of medical staff, and 9.12±1.13 for overall satisfaction.Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that the women living in regions with low economic development had higher satisfaction than those in regions with high economic development (b=-2.539,t=-11.975,P<0.001) and the women accessing the screening via the notification of non-administrative personnel had higher satisfaction than those via the notification of administrative personnel (b=-2.279,t=-11.243,P<0.001);the women receiving the screening held jointly by county maternal and child health hospital (CMCH) and township health center had higher satisfaction score than those receiving the screening held by CMCH alone (b=-2.141,t=-7.711,P<0.001);the women at younger age had higher satisfaction score (b=-0.026,t=-3.338,P=0.001).The times of having the screening showed no influence on the satisfaction score among the women. Conclusion The rural women in Hubei province are highly satisfying to free breast and cervical cancer screening generally and the satisfaction is mainly influenced by regional economic development level, route of accessing screening notification, implementation pattern of the screening, and the age of the screening receiver.
