Study on status of toxoplasma infection and immunology detection in new-born babies

  •   Objective   To investigate the status of toxoplasma(Tox)infection in new-born babies.
      Methods   Enzymlinked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect circulating antigen(CAg), special antibodies IgM and IgG in fetal umbilical blood.
      Results   Among the 93 cases, 4 were TOX-CAg positive(4.3%), 2 were TOX-IgM positive(2.2%)and 14 were TOX-IgG positive(15.1%)in new born infants.the overall prevalence rate of toxoplasmosis among the new born infants was 19.4% (18/93);the rate of acute infection was 5.4%.
      Conclusion   New born infants are at the high risk of toxoplasma infection, about 5.4% fetus will get acute infection from their mothers before they give birth.Therefore, Sero-epidemiologic survey in pregnant women show an impor tant sig nificance in better child-bearing.
