Objective To study the effects of nickel sulfate exposure on spleen lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status in mice.
Methods Three groups of mice were injected intraperitoneally with nickel sulfate at dose of 0.8, 2.5, 5.0mg/kg respectively for 30 days to build up the experiment animal model of subchronic toxicity and those in control groups received distilled water at the same time. The spleen activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured with enzyme assay, meanwhile the contents of total antioxidation capability (T-AOC), glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA) were assessed with spectrophotometry.
Results The spleen activities of SOD were inhibited by nickel sulfate, meanwhile the spleen levels of TAOC, GSH were reduced and MDA were increased by nickel sulfate.
Conclusion Nickel may drop the antioxidant capability of spleens to cause the damnification of mice spleens.
