Objective To investigate the effects of vitamin Esuccinate(VES) and vitamin E(VE)on cell apoptosis and the role of c-Jun N-terminal kinase in vitamin E succinate-induced cell apoptosis in Raji cells.
Methods Flow-cytometry and Western Blotting analysis were used to observe the effects of VES and VE on Raji cells in vitro.
Results Both VES and VE could induce apoptosis in Raji cells.VES was more effective than VE, which induced apoptosis in time-dependent manner. In Raji cells treated with VES, the level of phosphorylated form of JNK increased at 6 h and reached peak level at 12 h, which continuing through 24 h after treatment initiation. The level of phosphorylation state-independent JNK was not changed.
Conclusion VES was a potent activator of JNK, which played an important role in the apoptosis induced by VES in human cancer cells.
