Mental health status and coping style of military personnel in island.

  •   Objective   To study the mental health status and the characteristics of the coping style of the military personnel in the southern island.
      Methods   236 military personnel were assessed with Symptom Checklist-90(SCL-90)and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire.
      Results   (1) All the factors score of the study object are significantly higher than the Chinese norm's, which are also significantly higher than the military norm's except the factor of somatization.(2)The military personnel of the island adopt more positive coping style and less negative coping style.(3)The positive coping style adopted has low positive correlation with mental health(γ=0.153), the negative coping style has high correlation with mental health(γ=0.567), especially with the factor of depression(γ=0.569).(4)Multianalysis shows that the negative coping style has close connection with the mental health(R2=0.318), some negative coping styls have negative influence upon mental health.
      Conclusion   The mental health status of the military personnel of the southern island troops is lower than the citizen's and the collectivity level of the army men's.The negative coping style is an important factorinfluene upon their mental health.
