Influence of high iodine intake on anti-oxidation ability in mice and intervention of selenium

  •   Objective   To study the influence of high iodine intake on the anti-oxidation ability in mice and intervention of selenium.
Methods   40 Balb/c mice were divied into 5 groups according to weight: control group, high iodine group Ⅰ (3 000 μg/LⅠ), high iodineⅠ(3 000 μg/LⅠ)plus selenium(1 000 μg/L Se)group, high iodine group Ⅱ(5 000 μg/LⅠ) and high iodine Ⅱ(5 000 μg/LⅠ)plus selenium(1 000 μg/L Se)group. The mice were given drinking water including different doses of iodine and selenium.3 months later, related indices were deter mined.
Results   The mice in high iodine group showed colloid goiter.Compared with control group, serum TT4 level in two high iodine groups increased significantly, serum TT3 in high iodine group Ⅱ decreased obviously; In high iodine group, liver and brain GSH-Px activity decreased, MDA content increased, and GSH-Px activity in high iodine Ⅰ plus selenium group was significantly higher than high iodine group Ⅰ.
Conclusion   High iodine intake may decrease the anti-oxidation ability in mice and selenium supplementation exerted favourable effects on it.
