Effects of oral administration of porcine insulin on type 1 diabetes prevention and treatment in rat

  •   Objective   To validate the preventive and therapy effects for type 1 diabetes with oral administration of porcine insulin.
Methods   Forty female NOD mice were divided randomizedly into four groups.Begining from four, eight and twelve-week age, tree groups were orally administered porcine insulin 700 l(1 mg)and other 500 l PBS only.Twice before the twelfth week and then once weekly until 35-week age.
Results   When the mice were thirty-five-week age, the cummulative incidences of all insulin groups were significantly lower than the control group(P < 0.01), but the survival rates were significantly higher than the control one(P=0.009).
