Study on GSTM1 genetic polymorphism in traffic police population in Guangzhou

  •   Objective   To investigate the polymorphism distribution of the GSTM 1 genotypes in traffic police population in Guangzhou.
Methods   The epidemiological data were collected by a cross-sectional study and GSTM 1 polymorhisms were determined by the multi-differential polymerase chiain reaction(MD-PCR)method using the samples of peripheral blood leukocyte DNA.Individuals were stratified according to their sex, native place, race, cancer family history, job and duration of exposure. The frequency of GSTM 1-null genotype in traffic police population in Guangzhou was compared with that of other population in China.
Results   The frequency of GSTM 1-null genotype came to 59.58% in the study population, which was higher than that of urban population in Shanghai normal population and lower than that of lung cancer population in Yunnan (P < 0.05).However, no significant differences were found between GSTM 1-mull genotype and sex, nationality, work group, family cancer history, length of service and work environment, exposed automobile more than 10 hours per week(P > 0.05).
Conclusion   Distribution of the GSTM 1 genes was polymorphic and GSTM-null genotype was similar in the characteristics of the study population.
