Relationship between lipid metabolism and risk factors of cardiovascular disease in adults

  Objective   To study the relationship between special characteristics of lipid metabolism and risk factors of cardiovascular disease(CVD)in adults of Han people in Urumqi region.

  Methods   Using group selected study, serum lipids, serum glucose, blood pressure, height, weight, waistline and hip girth of 2 688 people were measured.

  Results   (1) There was significant difference between the means of serum lipids in the group of BMI≥18.5 and the group of BMI < 18.5(P < 0.01).There was significant difference between the means of serum lipids in the different groups in terms of waistline or WHR more or less than 70cm or 0.75 respectively.(2)There was significant difference in serum lipids between different blood pressure groups in which the blood pressure reading was more or less than 120/75 mmHg.(3)There was significant difference in serum lipids between the different groups in which fasting plasma glucose level more or less than 5.5 mmol/L or post prandial blood glucose level more or less 6.5 mmol/L.

  Conclusion   There was strong relationships between serum lipids and the risk factors of CVD in adults of Han people in Urumqi region.
