Effect of different color paper and ink on visual fatigue

  •   Objective   To study the relation between myopia and luminance with chroma in paper and ink.
Methods   38 fifth-grade pupils were carried through the survey of subjective symptoms of visual fatigue during writing with three different color notebooks.Reflecting Index(RI)of notebooks was determined.Brightness Contrast(BC)was evaluated.
Results   (1) More subjects appeared visual fatigue as a result of using white notebooks.(2)RI of notebooks distributed in the range from 61.60% to 70.38%.RI of white notebook wasn't the highest than the others.(3)Writing with black or blue ink, BC distributed around 96%and 50%respectively.(4)Visual threshold(VT)of blue ink was 1.7 times larger than VT of the black. For the same sort of ink, VT at night was 1.3 times as in broad day.
Conclusion   (1) While being writtern, the yellow notebook resulted in less visual fatigue than the white, the yellow paper added tens of red dots produced less visual fatigue than the yellow paper.(2)Faint yellow notebooks was unable to decline the RI markedly than white was, but the darker yellow or the semi-gloss finish and matte finish papers were able to decrease it.(3)Using blue ink visual efficiency(VE)was lower than the black one. While writing at night, the VE of the same kind of ink was lower than in broad day.
