Study on depression symptoms and associated factors in middle school students of Chengdu urban area

  •   Objective   To study the occurrence of depression symptoms and associated factors in middle school students of Chengdu urban area.
      Methods   Multiple random sample method was used in the study.1 421 middle school students were sampled.Self-editted questionnare(including age, sex, family circumstance, experience in childhood, etc.)and Beck Depression Inventory(BDI)were used in the sampled students.
      Results   The mean score of BDI was 10.98±7.39.The mean score of female was higher than that of male(P < 0.01).The most common depression symptoms included fatigue, guilt, depression mood, dissatisfaction, etc.The higher BDI scores were expressed in students of graduating class, parents' divorce family, remarried family, notharmony of family members, not reared by parents and violence or suicide behaviors in family members.
      Conclusion   and teachers should discover and intervene the students' depression symptoms as early as possible.
