Objective To describe and explore the level of serum lipid and risk factors in the rural population of Changshu.
Methods A stratified cluster sampling technique was conducted to select a population sample of 3061 aged 35 years old and over in a rural village among five areas in Changshu.Weight, height, blood pressure, serum lipid, blood glucose and other related factors were examined and analyzed.
Results The average level of serum total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)were(4.40±0.83), (1153±0.88), (1.27±0.31)and(2.43±0.71)mmol/L.It was found that age, sex, smoking, drinking, blood pressure, blood glucose, body mass index(BMI)and waist hip ratio(WHR)may influence the level of serum lipid.
Conclusion Health education and regular serum lipid tests should be carried out in order to reduce incidence rate of cardiovascular diseases.
