Study on protective effect of lycium barbarum polysaccharides on testis tissue damage of male rats

  •   Objective   To study the protective effect of lycium barbarum polysaccharides(LBP)on male rats' testis organ damage and find out the optimal dose of LBP.
Methods   Different doses of LBP 0, 10, 50, 100 and 200 mg/(kg°d) were poured into the male Wistar rats' stomach.Trauma model of testicle were constructed by warm bath after two weeks.Serum sexual hormone levels, organ index of testis and epididymides, superoxide dismutase(SOD)activity, malonic aldehyde (MDA)contents and morphological change of the testis were observed.
Results   LBP could elevate the serum sexual hormone levels and organ index of testis and epididymides, increase the activity of SOD and decrease the contents of MDA in testis tissue; and make the damaged testis recover to near normal.
Conclusion   LBP has the protective effect on damaged rat testis and the optimal dose is 10 mg/(kg°d).
