Objective In order to known the germicidal efficacy of potassium ferrate solution.
Methods Suspension and quantitative bactericidal tests were carried out.
Results At 20℃ the solution containing potassium ferrate 10-40 mg/L and with 5-minute contact time could kill 100% of Escherchla coli and Stophylococcus aureus in suspension and its solution with 5-minute contacting time could kill over 99.50% of Candida albicans in suspension. But the solution containing 40 mg/L and with 5-minute contacting time could not kill spores of Bacillus var.niger.At 20℃, the solution containing 160 mg/L and with 30-minute contacting time could not destroy the antigenicity of HBsAg.
Conclusion Potassium ferrate could kill bacteria under certain conditions and could kill fungus to some extent, but without efficacy on bacteria spare and HBsAg.
