Study of Relationship of Diabetes Mellitus with BMI and the Ratio of Waist to Buttook Circle in Shenzhen

The relationship between obesity and the prevalence rates of diabetes mellitus(DM)and impaired glucose tolerance(IGT),A total number of 8200 persons of more than 20 years old having lived in the communities longer than 5 years,was studied in 5 regions of shenzhen in 1997,using stratified cluster sampling method.The study results showed that the prevalence rates of DM and IGT were significantly rose,As BMI and RWBC increased,the prevalence rates of DM and IGT in obesity group(BMI≥25) were 2.6 and 2.3 times in Nonobesity one (BMI25),and that two ratio in more than one group to in less than one were 1∶5 and 1∶2.5.The study result also showed the prevalence rates of DM and IGT increased 0.5% and 1%,As the waist circle increased 1cm.
