Antimutagenicity of 16 kinds Chinese Herbal Drugs to 4NQO Induced Mutagenisis

Antimutagenicity effects of 16 Kinds Chinese Herbal Drugs on a dual biological indicators-fo rward (SM^r-5) and reversion (Trp⁺)mutations induced by 4-nitroquinoline-1-o xide (4NQO) were determined by a bioantimutagenic model in Escherichia coli strain CM891, respectely.Results showed the water extract of Fructus chebulae, Radix polygoni multiflori, Fructurs lig ustri lucidi and shell of water chestnut with a pedicle could produce antimutagenisis against 4NQU-induced fo rward and reversion mutation.Futher, shell of w ater chestnut with a pedicle also could do antimutag enisis to spo ntaneous ones.However, Paeonia lactiflora could prolmote 4NQO-induced mutation.
