Case-Cohort Study of the Occupational Exposure to Rubber Association with Intestinal and Pancreative Cancer

  • A cohort of 1598 employees(934men,664women)in a rubber factory in Shanghai have been followed up from 1973 to 1995 and their 23 years mortality experience is presented. We found elevated RR for the five working groups of rubber footwear, maintenance milling, vuring and building under controlling non-occupational factors. These data suggest that the occupational exposures to nitrosoamine(RR=2.43,95% CI=0.65~9.12)and carbon blacks(RR=2.30,95% CI=0.64~8.26)were the likely causal agent of the intestinal cacer excess observed among workers in the rubber factory under study. Also, the occupational exposures to solvent(RR=3.84,95% CI=0.46~32.20)and nitrosoamine(RR=2.71,95% CI=0.62~11.91)were the likely causal agent of the pancreatic cancer.
