Acceptability and factors of male circumcision among male residents in Guangxi

ObjectiveTo study the acceptability of male circumcision(MC)among male residents in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region,and to analyse the key factors of their willingness to MC.MethodsMulti-stage cluster sampling was used to recruit residents in Hezhou and Qinzhou city.Questionnaire interviews were administrated to the male participants.ResultsAmong the 668 heterosexual men attended the survey,15.1% (101),8.1% (54),4.2% (28),and 72.6% (485) selected "willing", "may be willing", "may not be willing",and "unwilling" to accept MC.There were 23.2% (155) reported the willingness to take MC among the participants in "willing" and "may be willing" groups and 89.8% (459) considered the MC being unnecessary or with no effect on health among the participants in "may not be willing" and "unwilling" groups.Logistic regression analyses showed that knowing phimosis or redundant prepuce inducing smegma and affecting the reproductive health had statistically significant association with the acceptability of MC(P<0.05).ConclusionThe proportion of willing to accept MC is low and the improvement of the basic know ledge on MC may help in the promotion of MC among the residents in Guangxi.
