Knowledge, attitude and diet-related behaviors of kaschin-beck disease(KBD) among the residents who live in Aba’s KBD endemic areas

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence of knowledge,attitude,diet-related behavior of kashin-beck disease (KBD)among the residents who live in Aba's KBD areas.MethodsTotally 939 residents randomly selected from 13 villages of Aba's KBD areas were interview ed with a self-designed questionnaire.ResultsOf the respondents,the total rate of KBD-related know ledge was 37.8% and 600 people(63.9%)got KBD know ledge from medical and health personnel.Totally 833 people(88.7%)concerned about KBD;874 people(93.1%)were willing to eat rice;853 people(90.8%) were willing to intake Se-iodine salt;833 people(88.7%)insisted on consuming rice and 561 people(59.7%)insisted on intake of Se-iodized salt.Among the residents,the number of people consuming vegetables,meat,poultry,and fish were 892 (95.0%),877(93.4%),276(29.4%),and 65(6.9%),respectively,within the last week.ConclusionThe status of KBD-related know ledge,intaking se-iodized salt and diet diversification among the residents in Aba's KBD areas were not optimistic.Specific health education programs should be promoted among the residents.
