Social support and its determinants among nurses in county-level medical institutions

  • ObjectiveTo evaluate the status of social support and its infulencing factors among the nurses in countylevel medical institutions in Dongying city of Shandong province.MethodsA questionnaire for basic information and Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS)were used to investigate the social support status among 360 nurses from Guangrao, Kenli,and Lijin counties in Dongying city.ResultsThe average scores of subjective social support,objective social support,application of social support,and total the score of social support among the nurses were 9.97±2.78,27.31±4.58, 8.66±1.85,and 45.94±7.15,respectively.The average total score of social support was significantly higher than that of domestic norm(45.94±7.15 vs 34.56±3.73).The main influencing factors of social support were age,working years, state of health,and social insurance.ConclusionThe social support conditions of the nurses in Shandong province are at a high level.The relative departments should pay more attention to the young nurse with shorter working duration and poor health and without social insurance.
