Status and demand of new drugs and AIDS knowledge among female college students

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the status and demand of knowledge on new narcotics and AIDS among female college students,and to provide scientific evidence for new drugs and AIDS prevention in the students.MethodsThe female college students were selected from three colleges in Hebei province with stratified random cluster sampling and investigated with a questionnaire.ResultsThe rate of awareness about new drugs and AIDS know ledge in the students was 67.51% and the rate in the students majoring in medicine was higher than that of students in other subjects(P<0.05).Among the students,26.0% did not know the impact of new drugs abuse on AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases and 52.84% did not know that sexual transmission was a major transmission way of AIDS.The mass media,the public welfare propaganda,and the print media were their main resource for getting knowledge of new drugs and AIDS.The warning from the education in school system and the medical personnel was only 31.39% and 13.56%,while the demand for the warnings ware reported by 70.98% and 31.07% of the students.There was a significant gap between the demand and the supply (P<0.001).ConclusionThe female college students lack knowledge of new drugs and AIDS seriously.There is an urgent need for education on new drugs and AIDS prevention.
