Economic loss and its related factors among injury inpatients in 2006 in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region

  • ObjectiveTo know the economic loss and its related factors among injury inpatients in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,and to provide theoretical basis for injury prevention and control.MethodsA retropective study on economic loss was conducted among 5 906 injury inpatients selected with multistage cluster sampling from nine hospitals in four areas of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.ResultsThe total injury-caused economic loss was 40.82 million RMB yuan.The median of direct economic losses was 2 388.66 yuan;the indirect economic loss was 314.78 yuan and the total economic loss was 2 772.26 yuan for one injury inpatient.The direct economic loss in men(2 424.89 yuan)was more than that in women(2 303.66 yuan,Z=-2.024,P<0.05).The median of average economic loss per injury inpatient at age of <15,15-29,30-44,45-59,and≥60 years was 129.14,338.99,399.53,427.76,and 193.07 yuan,respectively,with significant difference(χ2=1002.70,P<0.001).The results of logistic regression showed that hospitalization in district or municipal hospital,traffic accident,fall or crash injury,blunt injury,burn or scalded injury,low er extremitiy or fracture injury,injury of great vessel,poisoning,and the operation were risk factors for economic loss.Preschool children,student, faicial injury were protective factors for lower economic loss.ConclusionThe grade of hospital,occupation,type and nature of injury,and treatment process are factors influencing economic loss for inpatients with injury in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
