Induced abortion among married women of child-bearing age

  • Objective To describe the prevalence and risk factors of induced abortion among married women of child-bearing age for making effective intervention measures for induced abortion and improving women's reproductive health. Methods Totally 1 331 married women of child-bearing age were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire during April to November,2012 in Xiqiao town of Foshan city.SPSS 17.0 was used in data analyses. Results The rate of induced abortion in the women was 31.7% and the rate of premarital induced abortion was 15.22%.The women aged 20-25 years had the highest rate of premarital induced abortion and the rate for the women aged 26-30,31-35,36-40,and ≥41 years was 9.30%,7.94%,8.55%,and 5.13%,respectively.Logistic regression analyses showed that age(odds ratioOR=1.716-1.855),type of residence(OR=2.058),number of children (OR=3.742)had influence on the rate of induced abortion. The main reasons for premarital induced abortion were contraceptive failure and having no contraceptive measures. Conclusion The rate of induced abortion, especially premarital induced abortion,is high among the women of child-bearing age and relevant departments should provide efficient reproductive health service to married women of child-bearing age, especially to the women at young age, with a child or without permanent residence.
