Nutrional status of children age 2-6 years in Jinzhou railway area

Objective To investigate the growth and nutritional status of children in Jinzhou railway area.Methods The physical examination data of 2 367 children aged 2-6 years from 6 kindergartens in Jinzhou railway area in 2010 were analyzed.Results Among the children,the detection rate of malnutrition was 3.25%;the rate of growth retardation,low birth weight and weight loss rate were 1.56%,0.68% and 1.01%,all of which were lower than those of Chinese children under 5 years of age in 2010;the prevalence of overweight and obesity were 6.39% and 5.83%,lower than those of the 2002 national nutrition survey.Compared to those of urban children,the low weight rate,wasting rate and the rate of obesity of the children in Jinzhou railway area were statistically significant different(P<0.05).The prevalence rate of anemia was 3.76% in the children of 2 years old and significantly higher than that of other age groups(χ²=7.85,P<0.01).ConclusionThe nutrition status of children in Jinzhou railway area is good,but the detection rate of obesity and anemia of the children of some age groups are higher than those of other children.
