Impact of risk factors clustering on prevalance of hypertension

  • ObjectiveTo explore the association between the clustering of hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, alcohol drinking, overweight and hypertension in urban and rural residents in Heilongjinag provence.MethodsTotally 5 984 residents in Nangang district of Harbin city and 11 villages in Pingshan town of Lanxi county in Heilongjiang province were selected.Lifestyle risk factors, including cigarette smoking and alcohol drinking, were investigated and blooy weigth, hight, waist circumference, hip circumference, and blood pressure were measured.Blood glucose and blood lipids were detected with standardized methods for all participants.Associations between the clustering of the risk factors and hyprtension were analyzed with logistic regression.ResultsFor urban residents, after adjusting for age and gender, the odds ratios(95% cofidence intervalCI)of hypertension for the clustering of 1-4 risk factors were 2.075(1.709-2.319),3.259(2.611-4.068),5.596(4.106-7.262),and 5.597(2.993-10.465).For rural residents, after adjusting for age and gender, the odds ratios(95% CI)of hypertension for the clustering of 1-4 risk factors were 1.298(1.072-1.572),2.145(1.729-2.662),2.986(2.185-4.079),and 2.169(1.1293-3.954).The odds ratios of hypertension for the clustering of two risk factors or more were all more than that of one risk factor.ConclusionThe risk of hypertension is increased with the number of clustering risk factors in urban and rural residents of Heilongjiang province.
