Prevalence of congenital heart disease among infants in Beilun district of Ningbo city, 2008-2010

ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence and related factors of congenital heart disease(CHD)among infants in Beilun district of Ningbo city.MethodsWith auscultation and ultrasound inspection,the CHD was examined among 11 317 infants borned from 2008 through 2010.ResultsThe prevalence rate of CHD among the infants was 10.78‰;the rate was 7.63‰ for local-registered infants and 13.76‰ for non-local-registered infants.The top three of CHD were atrial septal defect,ventricular septal defect,and atrial septal defect concurrent with patent ductus arteriosus.Among the infants with CHD,68.85% were diagnosed in the neonatal period and 35.24% were self-healed with in a year.There were 10.17% of CHD infants died before one year old and 9.84% of CHD infants had other malformation.Higher prevalence rate of CHD was observed in the premature infants,infants with low birth weight,with mothers of older age,low educational level or full-time home maker.ConclusionThe CHD prevalence rate of local infants presents an increasing trend and the prevalence rate of CHD in non-local infants is higher than that of local infants.
