Objective To examine the prevalence and influencing factors of medication compliance among comorbidity patients with hypertension and diabetes and to provide evidences for disease management of the patients.
Methods Using cluster sampling, we recruited 1 912 patients with hypertension or diabetes registered in Community Chronic Disease Patients Management System in Longchuan town of Nanhua county, Yunnan province and conducted a questionnaire survey among the patients between December 2015 and January 2016.
Results Among all the patients, 347 (18.15%) were hypertensive comorbidity with diabetes; of the comorbidity patients, 229 (65.99%) reported having regular medication. Unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that with medication expenses paid by the medical security for urban workers and residents (odds ratio OR = 0.024, 95% confidence interval 95% CI: 0.007 – 0.084) and with a good compliance to a doctor′s advice (OR = 0.183, 95% CI: 0.103 – 0.327) are promotive factors for regular medication among the patients with hypertension and diabetes.
Conclusion The rate of regular medication is relatively low and mainly influenced by payment method and compliance to a doctor′s advice among community patients with hypertension and diabetes in Longchuan town of Nanhua County, Yunnan province.
