Utilization and demands of contracted family doctor service and their influencing factors among adult residents in an urban district of Beijing

Objective To explore the utilization of contracted family doctor service and influencing factors for the willingness to utilize and pay to the service among adult residents in a urban district of Beijing.

Methods We conducted a survey among all permanent residents aged 35 years and over in a district of Beijing. Relevant information on 97.8% of 242 172 residents of 142 105 households were collected with face-to-face questionnaire interviews from November 20, 2017 to June 15, 2018.

Results Of all the valid respondents (n = 236 841), 26.8% (n = 63 648) reported the utilization of contracted family doctor service; 51.1% (n = 120 936) reported the willingness to utilize contracted family doctor service and 19.3% (n = 24 069) reported the willingness to pay to the service. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that age and whether suffering from chronic disease were main factors affecting the respondents′ willingness to utilize and to pay to and payment level for contracted family doctor service among the respondents.

Conclusion In urban Beijing, the residents aged 65 years and over and those with chronic diseases are the populations having greatest demand and utilization of contracted family doctor service.
