Willingness to have contracted medication-nursing combined service among community elderly with chronic diseases in Xi′an city

  •   Objective  To examine the willingness to have contracted medication-nursing combined service and its influencing factors among community elderly with chronic diseases in Xi′an city of Shaanxi province.
Methods  Using convenient sampling, we recruited 460 permanent residents aged 60 years and above and having chronic diseases in 4 urban districts of Xi′an city for a questionnaire survey from October 2018 to February 2019. Logistic regression analysis was adopted in data analysis.
Results  Of all the respondents, 293 (65.5%) reported the willingness to sign a contract for medication-nursing combined service. Binary logistic regression analysis indicated that the willingness was influence by 11 variables including age, marital status, education level and personal monthly income, significantly (P < 0.05 for all). Among the respondents reporting the willingness, 63.7% (192), 14.0% (41), and 20.5% (60) had the preference for home-, daily care-, and institution-based medication-nursing combined service, respectively; multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age, the number of chronic diseases suffered from, and self-rated health status were influence factors for the preference (all P < 0.05). Worried about less items and poor quality of the contracted medication-nursing combined service were main considerations reported by the respondents without the willingness to have the service.
Conclusion  Among the elderly chronic disease patients in Xi′an city, there is a high demand for contracted medication-nursing combined service, especially for home-based service, and the demand is influenced by multiple factors.
