Detection rate and risk factors of hypertension among retired workers in Nanchang city

  •   Objective  To explore the prevalence and risk factors of hypertension among retired workers in Nanchang city, Jiangxi province, and to provide references for effective hypertension prevention and control in retired workers.
Methods  We conducted a questionnaire survey and physical examination among 1 005 retired workers randomly selected from physical examinees at a general hospital in the city from January 2017 through May 2019.
Results  Among all the retired workers, 720 hypertensives were detected and the detection rate was 71.64%. Of the hypertensives detected, 488 (67.78%), 192 (26.67%), and 40 (5.55%) were with grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 hypertension and 19 (2.64%), 52 (7.22%), and 649 (90.14%) were assessed with low, moderate, and high risk of adverse cardiovascular events, respectively. The results of unconditional multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that abnormal blood lipid, abnormal glucose metabolism, family history of early cardiovascular disease, family history of hypertension, and body mass index of 28.0 kg/m2 and above were the risk factors of hypertension in the retired workers.
Conclusion  The detection rate of hypertension is relatively high among retired workers in Nanchang city and dyslipidemia, abnormal glucose metabolism, family history of early cardiovascular disease, family history of hypertension and high body mass index are main risk factors of hypertension for the workers.
