Mortality and disease burden of stroke among residents in disease surveillance points in Hebei, 2014 – 2017

  •   Objective  To analyze the mortality and disease burden of stroke among residents in mortality surveillance sites in Hebei province from 2014 to 2017 and to provide references for stroke prevention and control.
      Methods  From death registry system, we collected the data on stroke mortality from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2017 among permanent residents in 30 disease surveillance points in Hebei province. Stroke-related mortality rate, years of potential life lost (YPLL) and working years of potential life lost (WYPLL) were analyzed.
      Results  For the population in all the disease surveillance points, the average annual crude and standardized mortality rate of stroke were 124.50/100 000 and 119.58/100 000 and the crude mortality rate of stroke for the year of 2014  –  2017 were 128.30/100 000, 125.28/100 000, 120.82/100 000, and 123.77/100 000, respectively, with a significantly decreasing trend (χ2 = 18.607, P < 0.001). For the years of 2014 – 2017, the stroke-related YPLL were 70 032.5, 69 322.5, 67 635.0, and 71 170.0, with the corresponding YPLL‰ of 5.28‰, 5.18‰, 4.94‰, and 5.05‰; the stroke-related WYPLL were 42 725.0, 42 050.0, 40 870.0, and 43 437.5, with the corresponding WYPLL‰ of 3.33‰, 3.24‰, 3.10‰, and 3.20‰, respectively.
      Conclusion  During 2014 – 2017, the mortality rate of stroke was relatively high and the stroke-related disease burden was heavy among the residents in disease surveillance points in Hebei province.
