Abstract
Since the founding of the Communist Party of China, China′s health policy has been constantly adjusted and optimized. With the national regime transition and social development, a series of changes have taken place in China′s health policy and could be generally divided into four main stages: mass health campaign with the germination of health and health development concept, public welfare, market-oriented reform, and the return to the public welfare stage and the whole transformation process was characterized by gradual development, adhering to the principle of turning a megastage into small processes, developing reasonable policies based on actual situations, the reality, sticking to right direction consistently, and to bring about circular development of the policy system. Great historical achievements have been made along with the implementation of the health policies in different stages. The successful experiences suggested that in the new era, China′s development in public health and medical service should adhere to four unifications: the unity of economic development and people′s health to promote high-quality economic development and national health, the unity of bottom-line thinking and strategic-thinking to ensure Chinese people′s life safety and health, the unity of gradual progress and overall promotion to realize the development with Chinese characteristics, and the unity of local awareness and global vision to establish a community with a healthy future for mankind.
