Abstract
With the aging of population, more and more older adults are suffering from sarcopenic obesity due to aging-induced sarcopenia and obesity caused by unhealthy lifestyle. Sarcopenic obesity often results in metabolic disorders, reduced quality of life and even disability, thus increasing the mortality rate in older adults. Exercise is a known measure to prevent and control muscle atrophy and obesity effectively in the elderly. In this article, we discuss the mechanism of adverse effect of sarcopenic obesity on cardiovascular disease and effects of exercise intervention to provide reference for developing health promotion programs in the elderly.
