Current situation and future development of health education in hospital: a brief discussion

In recent years, the high incidence of chronic diseases has caused a heavy health and economic burden in China and around the world. Health education is an effective way to prevent and control chronic diseases, and an important component of building a healthy China. As the main body of medical services in China, hospitals have authority and credibility on health promotion among the masses. Hospitals could take natural advantages in carrying out health education and in improving health literacy and health level of patients and the public. In this article, we conducted a systematic review on current organizational structure, working mechanism, and main forms of hospital health education, discussed the experience and shortcomings of hospital - based health education at home and abroad, and made a prospect on the development of hospital health education in the future for promoting the health education in China.
