The Analysis of Contraceptive Use Model among Migrants in Shanghai

  • To make family planning program perfected,improve the quality of family planning service,to increase the contraceptive use rate and use effectiveness rate among migrants,an overall survey on the current birth control situation of female migrants of childbearing age was conducted by Shanghai Institute of Planned Parentood Research(SIPPR) during Feb.16,1990 to Apr.3,1998.The results showed 68.10% female migrants used IUD;23.60% used sterilization;oral pills and others were occupied about 4.20% and 4.00% respectively.The total contraceptive rate among female migrants in Shanghai was 88.7%. Among the married female migrants,there were 94.3% women who were satisfied with the current contraceptive methods.Women with different contraceptive methods had different level of satisfaction(P=0.001).The level of satisfaction on sterilization and IUD were beyond that of other contraceptive methods. The results indicated that 17.5% women got the contraceptive knowledge from hospitals,46.2% from family planning cadres,22.6% from books,magazines and newspapers,8.3% from friends;The popularity of emergent contraception is quite lower,only 9% of all subjects had heard of the emergency contraceptive.There were 80.7% and 49.8% married female migrants on reproductive age who wanted to be further provided family planning information,education and service respectively(The project was funded by th State Family Planning Committee).
