A Survey of the Chronic Diseases Prevalence among Aged Persons in Chengdu

  • Objective To investigate general health status and the prevalence of chronic diseases of the aged persons in Chengdu.Methods 330 study subjects over 60 years old were sampled from a community and a senior citizen's university.Information of chronic diseases were collected by a questionnaire,in which the person with chronic disease was defined if he or she had a diagnostic certificate made by a county or above hospital.Results There were 72.4% aged persons with musculoskeletal disease,which was the most common chronic disease of the aged persons in Chengdu.Other common chronic diseases were ranged as:digestive diseases(47.0%),cardio vascular diseases(43.8%),respiratory diseases(31.3%),der mal diseases(28.3%)and urogenital diseases(18.4%).The spectrum of chronic diseases was almost similar for different educational level.But there wer e different constitutional proportions of chronic disease among difference family income groups.Conclusion Aiming at the features of the chronic disease spectrum was the precondition to establish effective medical and health services for aged persons.
