Study of Different Dietary Taurine on Metabolism of Neurotransmitters and Development of Brain in Growing Rats and Chicken

  • Objective To explore the effects of different dietary taur ine on metabolism of neurotr ansmitters and development of braining rowing rats and chicken.Method Female weanling Sprague Dawley rats(70±10)g and two ages female chicken(1,3 week)respectively were divided into four groups, eight rats of five chicken per group. The treated groups were fed on diets with three concentration of taurine supplemented diets respectivly, and control group was fed on taurine dissupplemented diets in rats or basal diet in chicken. The experiment lasted five weeks. Results Taurine supplemented diets significantly increased the level of taurine and protein in rats and chicken brain,in manner the dose-response.High concentration taurine can block synthetic metabolism AChE in chicken, and 5-HT and 5-HIAA in rats and chicken. Conclusion It was suggested that the taurine could modulate the release of neurotransmitters and there was different susceptibility to taurine in rats and chicken.
