Effect of Taurine on Lipid Metabolism in Hypercholesterlomic Rats

Objective This study investigated the effect of taurine on serum and liver cholesterol levels,and its mechanism in hypercholesterolemic rats.Methods Female weanling SD strain rats(80～100g),were divided into five groups,eight rats per group.As the control groups,Group A and B were fed either the high-cholesterol diet or normal diet.Group C、D、 and E were given one of the high-cholesterol diets incorporated with taurine at the levels of 0.6% 、1.35% or 3% respectively.The experiment lasted five weeks.Results All levels of taurine could significantly lowered the cholesterol levels of rats,buthigh level of taurine was more profound.0.6% level of taurine significantly increase plasma HDL-C、Apo-AI and lowed plasma Apo-B;1.35% an 3% levels of taurine significantly lowered TC、LDL-C、TG levels in plasma,increased the amount of fecal bile acids and ratio of HDL-C/LDL-C;effection of taurine at 3% level was more better.Conclusion Taurine have good effection on lipid metabolism in hypercholesterlomic rats.
