Analysis on Nutritional Status of Children below three years old in Tibet

  • Objective To understand the nutritional status of tibetan children below three years old.Methods Design of cross -sectional study and randomly sampling were used.Height and weight were used as nutritional indexes and the evaluation system from NCHS/WHO was employed.Results Pairs of 1655 children and mothers were investieated.The findings indicated that the nutritional status of entire children was poor,especially lower height compared with reference distribution of NCHS/WHO.The prevalence of stunting,under weight and wasting were 39.0%,23.7% and 5.6% respectively and the prevalence varied from one area to another and rural children had a higher prevaleoee of malnutrition.Moreover,altitude was an important factor that affects development and growth,especially children's height in Tibet.Conclusion The entire nutritional status of tibetan children below three years old was poor and there was a higher prevalence of malnutrition.
