Study on Mortality of Injury in Fujian’s Urban and Rural Areas from 1991 to 1999

  • ObjectiveTo understand the characteristics and trend of injuries among population of urban and rural areas in Fujian pr ovince.MethodsData from annual Fujian health statistics(1991-1999)were analyzed.ResultsThe over all mortality of injury in urban areas increased from 29.86/106 to 40.83/106 and in rural areas it increased from 64.19/106 to 75.20/106.Injury was the fourth leading causes of death in urban and rural areas.The rural death rate of injury was about 215 times of that in urban.Children below 1 year old and people above 60 years old showed the highest rates.The death rate of men was higher than that of women.The ratio was 1.25-1.99 in urban areas and 1.21-1.53 in rural areas.The first three leading causes of death of injury in urban areas were traffic accident,fall and suicide,while in rural areas were suicide, traffic accident and drowning.The mortality of traffic accident and suicide was increased in urban areas,the mortality of suicide was decreased in rural areas.ConclusionThe prevention of injury should be very important.
