Oxidation damage of benzene inhalation on multiple organs in rats

  •   Objective   To study the possible mechanisms of oxidative damages in rat multiple organs induced by gaseous benzene.
Methods   The mold of benzene inhalation in rats was built. The dose of inhalation was 106 mg/m3 and the peirod was consecutive 7 days(4 h/d).After the inhalation to xicological experiment, the factors of oxidative damage of lung, brain, liver and peripheral blood were determined.
Results   Benzene inhalation caused the significant increase of the activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD)in lung, the activity of GSHPx and the concentration of malonyl dialdehyde(MDA)in liver and the MDA in brain. At the same time, the level of reduced glutathione(GSH), GSHPX, MDA and SOD in peripheral blood had the trend of increase.
Conclusion   Benzene may induce a series of oxidative damage in the body of the rat, and has the charac ter of multiple organs.
