Study on β3-adrenergic receptor gene polymorphism and effect of dietary intervention in community hyperglycemia population

  Objective   To find out the relatio nship between a mutation in the β3-adrenergic receptor gene and the susceptibility of hyperg lycemia population to dietary intervention, and to provide genetic evidence for intervention on diabetes mellitus.

  Methods   233 hypergly cemia individuals of Han were screened from 8 communities in Nanjing, and they were separated into multiplex nutritional intervention(154 individuals)and control group(79 individuals)at random.The former were provided with coarse good grain and health education for 6 months, and no any intervention for the latter.

  Results   Body mass index (BMI), waist to hipratio(WHR), diastolic blood pressure(DBP), fasting blood glucose(FBG), total cholesterol(TC)decreased significantly, while high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)increased significantly(P < 0.05)in the individuals with Trp/Trp of intervention group.BMI, WHR, FBG decreased significantly, HDL-C also increased significantly(P < 0.05) in the ones with Trp/Arg.There was no significant changes in the ones with Arg/Arg.Moreover, susceptibility of change for BMI, WHR and FBG in Trp/Trp genotype carriers was greater than that in Trp/Arg or Arg/Arg genotype carriers.And, sus ceptibility of change for these 3 indexes in Trp/Arg genotpe carriers was greater than those in Arg/Arg genotype carriers(P < 0.05).

  Conclusion   Susceptibility of hyperglycemia population to dietary intervention varies with different genotypes of the β3-adrenergic receptor gene.Susceptibility of individuals with Trp/Trp to dietary intervention is the best of all, Trp/Trp takes second place, while Arg/Arg is relatively little.
