Measurement and evaluation of organic pollutants in tap water

  •   Objective   To study and evaluate the current levels of organic pollutants in tap water in a city.
      Methods   Volatile halogenated hydrocarbons in tap water were determined by head space gas chromatography and other organic pollutants were determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(GC/MS).
      Results   There were more than 308 organic pollutants, including 81 priory organic pollutants and more than 20 carcionogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic agents, identified in the tap water from five waterworks in the city.
      Conclusion   The tap water in the city is polluted on different levels by organic pollutants.The tap water from Dianci Lake is most seriously polluted.
