Objective To find out the aldehydes and ketones existing in the smoke from biomass combustion and to facilitate the further scientific research on the harm of the biomass smoke to the human beings.
Methods The High Performance Liqiud Chromatog raphy/Mass Spectrometry(HPL C/MS)was used to detect the aldehydes and ketones existing in the smoke sample collected from the Shaoguan mountain area of Guangdong province.Different aldehydes and ketones in the smoke sample were separated one by one with the help of the HPLC, the separated aldehyde and ketones were then directly sent to the on-line MS for determining the structures of aldehyed and ketones according to the pseudo-molecular-ion peak showed in the MS.
Results The following six aldehydes and ketones were found in the smoke sample: formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, ketone, benzaldehyde, valeraldehyde, and phenylpropyl aldehyde.
Conclusion The HPLC/MS analyse is sensitive, accurate and rapid. It is suitable for determination of aldehydes and ketones in the biomass smoke.
